IRAN, TAJIKISTAN SIGN RAILWAY TRANSIT DEAL, LAUNCH NEW CHAPTER IN BILATERAL CO-O

Iran and Tajikistan have recently expanded bilateral cooperation through multiple agreements. A major railway deal was signed by Iran’s deputy transport minister and Tajikistan’s railway chief, allowing Iranian wagons to transit through Tajikistan to other regional networks.During Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref’s visit to Dushanbe, four cooperation documents were exchanged, including MOUs on labor research, technology collaboration, a debt settlement between Iran’s Farab Company and Tajikistan’s energy ministry, and a joint statement with the Tajik prime minister.President Masoud Pezeshkian’s earlier visit in January resulted in 23 agreements covering diplomacy, trade, and cultural exchange. He stressed the goal of raising trade volume beyond $500 million and agreed to hold a joint economic commission soon. Talks with Tajik leaders focused on removing trade barriers and enhancing cooperation in science, education, agriculture, and transportation.A high-level Iranian business delegation, led by ICCIMA Head Samad Hassanzadeh and accompanied by the Minister of Cultural Heritage, visited Dushanbe in January. A joint forum with Tajik counterparts explored cooperation in petrochemicals, oil and gas, medical equipment, tourism, and industrial development. MOUs were signed between companies, and Hassanzadeh emphasized Iran’s strengths in competitive exports and engineering.In early May, Iran and Tajikistan also signed a roadmap to implement an MOU on standardization, focusing on joint certification, metrology, technical collaboration, and trade facilitation. Additionally, Iran’s Industry Minister Mohammad Atabak met with Tajik officials to expand cooperation in steel, chemicals, food industries, pharmaceuticals, and mining. Iran offered to supply building materials and help build pharmaceutical factories, while initial talks began on mining collaboration with IMIDRO. (ICE TEHERAN)
