The International Labour Organization (ILO), in partnership with the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), conducted a five-day training workshop in Erbil to equip Iraqi financial institutions with the expertise required to develop green microfinance products supporting sustainable small and medium-sized enterprises.Participants from commercial banks, governmental institutions, and microfinance organisations explored product diversification strategies, ESG alignment, and impact evaluation methodologies as part of the broader "TAUFIQ initiative" aimed at facilitating Iraq's transition to a green economy.This capacity-building exercise represents a strategic component of the ILO's comprehensive approach to promoting decent employment opportunities whilst strengthening Iraq's financial sector's ability to support environmentally sustainable business development in alignment with the country's 2030 Sustainable Development objectives.
