NEW HKTDC CHAIR FREDERICK MA VOWS TO BOOST HK GLOBAL TRADE ROLE
New HKTDC chair Frederick Ma vows to boost HK global trade role Newly appointed Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) chairman Frederick Ma Si-hang vowed to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a “super value-adder” and “super connector” in global trade. This came as Ma met with the organization’s management team on Monday morning, on his second day of office. He emphasized the importance of reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a global trade and financial hub while advancing its integration into national development strategies. Ma, who assumed the role on June 1, described his appointment as both an honor and a tremendous responsibility, particularly amid Hong Kong’s ongoing economic transformation. “While I am delighted to contribute to deepening Hong Kong’s integration into the national development agenda, the unprecedented challenges of our era compel me to remain vigilant in leveraging Hong Kong’s unique roles as a ‘super-connector’ and ‘super-value-adder’,” he said. Expressing confidence in the HKTDC team, Ma outlined his vision to bolster Hong Kong’s core advantages as a global trading and international financial center. He stressed the city’s pivotal role as a bridge linking mainland China with international markets. Additionally, he pledged to explore emerging markets, foster enterprise innovation, and promote sustainable development and digital transformation to maintain Hong Kong’s competitiveness. Ma, who will serve until May 31, 2027, is expected to bring extensive experience to the role. He has held key positions in numerous local and overseas banks, financial institutions and other organizations. He joined the SAR government in 2002 as secretary for financial services and treasury and later served as secretary for commerce and economic development between 2007 and 2008. Ma was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2009 and appointed as a Justice of the Peace in 2010. Ma, 72, is currently the nonexecutive chairman of FWD Group and a member of the Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers. https://www.thestandard.com.hk/hong-kong-news/article/303822/ (ICE HONG KONG)
