Central Asian states, Italy agree to develop security cooperationLeaders of Central Asian countries and Italy emphasized the importance of addressing key global challenges at a summit in Astana, according to a declaration adopted following the event."They agreed to strengthen cooperation in countering emerging threats, enhance interaction in the fight against climate change, terrorism, cyber threats, extremism, illegal migration, as well as all forms of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, such as fentanyl," states the declaration, released by the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.In this regard, the document notes, the leaders agreed "to further develop dialogue and cooperation between Italy and Central Asia in the field of security through regular meetings at the regional level, with a particular emphasis on cooperation between law enforcement agencies, countering illicit trafficking – such as drug, weapons, and human trafficking – as well as on deradicalization and extremism prevention measures.""The document expresses interest in further exploring opportunities to expand the exchange of information, experience, knowledge, best practices, and specialized training for qualified personnel," it states.The first "Central Asia - Italy" summit took place in Astana on Friday, attended by the heads of state of the region and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
