KAZAKHSTAN-BRICS-PLANS
Kazakhstan has no immediate plans to join BRICS - TokayevKazakhstan does not currently plan on joining BRICS as a full member and considers its observer status sufficient for the time being, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in an interview with Al Jazeera on Thursday."Let’s, first of all, see whether BRICS is going to be efficient enough as a well-promoted and proclaimed international organization. That’s why I said that, at least during the first stage, Kazakhstan will remain an observer in BRICS and then time will show," Tokayev said. When asked whether Kazakhstan might reactivate its application for full membership in the future, the president said, "No, we have no such plans.""We have secured an observer status in BRICS, and I believe that is quite enough," he added.Tokayev noted that BRICS lacks fixed structures, such as a charter, a secretariat, official programs and so on.The BRICS alliance currently consists of 10 countries: Russia, China, Brazil, South Africa, India, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia. Kazakhstan became a BRICS partner state on January 1, 2025. (ICE ALMATY)
