MINISTRY CONSIDERS REDUCING TIME TO ISSUE WORK PERMITS FOR FOREIGNERS
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) in Việt Nam plans to reduce the time needed to issue work permits for foreigners from 36 to 10 days and promote online application processing. This reform, outlined in a draft decree under review, aligns with the country’s push for digital transformation and the development of high-tech industries. The draft also proposes allowing university graduates without prior experience to work in sectors like finance, science, and digital innovation. It expands exemptions from work permit requirements to include experts in priority fields and outlines special cases approved by the Government. Decentralisation is also emphasized, with provincial authorities empowered to issue permits, offering flexibility for employers. A unified database will improve the management of foreign workers, linking to national systems. Valid health certificates from both Vietnamese and foreign medical facilities will be accepted. As of late 2024, nearly 162,000 foreign workers were employed in Việt Nam, representing 110 nationalities. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
