VIỆT NAM TO EXPORT FIRST BATCH OF LOW-EMISSION RICE
Việt Nam is set to make its first export of “Green and low-emission Vietnamese rice” to Japan on June 5, marking a major milestone for the country’s rice industry. This breakthrough stems from the one-million-hectare rice project, which aims to sustainably develop high-quality, low-emission rice in the Mekong Delta by 2030. The trademark reflects Việt Nam’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility and is intended to build credibility in strict, high-end markets like Japan. The Việt Nam Rice Industry Association (VIETRISA) will certify the rice, though businesses remain accountable for their green claims in the absence of a national certification system. Seven enterprises have already been licensed to use the trademark, representing 19,200 tonnes of rice. The first shipment will be handled by Trung An Company, in collaboration with Japan’s MURASE Group. The initiative promotes traceability, compliance with technical standards, and aims to boost farmer incomes while protecting the environment and supporting long-term food security.
