Kazakh economy grew 6% in Jan-May as expectedKazakhstan's economy expanded by 6% year-on-year in the first five months of 2025, First Deputy Minister of National Economy Azamat Amrin told Interfax-Kazakhstan."Real GDP growth was 6%. The economy continues growing: it rose by 4.8% last year. Overall, the trend is positive," Amrin said on the sidelines of the Monday session of the Majilis, the lower chamber of parliament.The drivers of economic growth were the manufacturing, construction, transportation and agricultural sectors. "These are non-resource sectors that currently fuel the expansion," the deputy minister said.President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said earlier that the country’s GDP should grow by at least 5.5% in 2025, though he described it as "not an overly ambitious target." In an interview with Al-Jazeera, he said that the government is seeking additional drivers for economic growth."However, several international institutions revised their 2025 growth forecasts downward for Kazakhstan in April. The World Bank expects Kazakhstan's GDP to expand by 4.5%, while the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) forecast 4.9% growth. In May, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) also lowered its projection to 4.9%. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's National Bank anticipates economic growth between 4.2% and 5.2% in 2025-2026.In January-April 2025, Kazakhstan's GDP increased by 6% growth, according to earlier reports.
