THE board of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has approved the Palawan Mega Ecozone (PMEZ) project, to be built within the Iwahig penal farm in Palawan and will be the largest in the country once finished. The 28,000-hectare development under a joint project with the Bureau of Corrections is expected to create 480,000 direct jobs that will benefit local communities, inmates of Iwahig, and residents of the Western Visayas and Sulu regions. An initial 4,000 hectares of land has been transferred to PEZA and the grant of pre-qualification for a 4,000-hectare property located in Barangay Montible and Sta. Lucia, Puerto Princesa City, has also been approved.
