THE Department of Energy of the Philippines (DOE) on Wednesday launched the 5th Green Energy Auction or GEA-5, which will focus exclusively on fixed-bottom offshore wind projects. The department is looking to secure offers for a total of 3,300 megawatts (MW) to be delivered beginning 2028 to 2030. The DOE said that fixed-bottom offshore wind was selected as the focus of GEA-5 due to its established global track record, cost-efficiency and scalability. "By prioritizing fixed-bottom offshore wind for GEA-5, we are investing in a technology that is ready to deliver," Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla said.
