THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY (DOE) ADJUSTS GEA-4 SKED FOR FLOATING SOLAR POWER
THE Department of Energy (DOE) has made adjustments in the schedule of the fourth round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-4) to support the use of floating solar technology. In a statement on Thursday, the DOE said it has issued advisory no. 2 reallocating the 1,040-megawatt (MW) installation target capacity — previously scheduled in Luzon in 2026 — to 2027, 2028, and 2029. "This is to provide developers with greater preparation time, improve project feasibility, and support grid readiness for this specialized technology," the DOE said. Floating solar power is an emerging clean-energy solution that utilizes bodies of water such as lakes, reservoirs, and dams for solar panel installations. It promotes land use efficiency, reduces water evaporation, and improves panel performance through natural cooling. The DOE likewise approved an additional 175-MW floating solar capacity in the Visayas, recognizing the region's demand and investor interest, the department, scheduled for auction in 2027 and 2028 https://www.manilatimes.net/2025/06/13/business/top-business/doe-adjusts-gea-4-sked-for-floating-solar-power/2132533 (ICE SINGAPORE)
