Kazakhstan and Starlink sign agreement to launch satellite internet serviceKazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and the Aerospace Industry and Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, have signed an agreement on the company’s compliance with the Kazakh legislation when providing satellite internet services in the republic, the press service of the ministry said in a Thursday statement."Until now, Starlink has operated in Kazakhstan in a pilot mode, providing internet access only for schools. Their internet services have been unavailable for the population. Finally, we have reached agreement: the company has agreed to comply with all our legal requirements in the field of information security and communications. This year, they will complete all necessary procedures, and our citizens will be able to officially and legally access satellite internet," Digital Development Minister Zhaslan Madiyev is quoted as saying.The agreement paves the way for the official launch of Starlink terminal sales in Kazakhstan."Sales are expected to begin in the 3rd quarter of 2025," the statement says.Through Starlink, rural schools, healthcare institutions, mobile teams and infrastructure facilities - particularly those located in areas where fiber-optic deployment is economically or technically unfeasible - will gain access to reliable internet, according to the statement.
