POLAND EXPORTED MORE ENERGY THAT IT IMPORTED IN THE FIRST FIVE MONTHS OF 2025

Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), a supervisor of the national energy system, has published data on the output of electricity in the first five months of 2025. The data shows that it increased by 2.23 percent, to 71.8 TWh, year-on-year. Electricity consumption fell by 1.85 percent, to 70.7 TWh. Lower demand was mainly affected by weather conditions. The foreign exchange balance was 1.1 TWh – that is how much more energy Poland exported than imported since the beginning of the year until May. Tauron, one of Poland's top three energy producers, explains that Poland was a net exporter of electricity in Q1, 2025 mainly due to higher SPOT prices in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia in January (exports in that month amounted to 931 GWh) and exports of surplus renewable energy sources.
