INDONESIA-SINGAPORE TO DEVELOP GREEN INDUSTRIAL ZONE IN RIAU ISLANDS
Indonesia and Singapore have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop a green industrial zone in the Riau Islands, as part of a broader clean energy collaboration. The zone, located in Karimun and Bintan near Singapore, will be powered by cross-border clean energy trade and supported by carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Prabowo’s directive to promote renewable energy-based downstream industries and will create thousands of jobs while advancing technology transfer. The zone will prioritize domestic manufacturing of key components like solar panels and cables, reinforcing Indonesia’s commitment to value-added production. With an estimated investment of USD 10 billion already lined up, the project is positioned as a model for low-carbon economic development. The MoU was signed in the presence of President Prabowo and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, marking a significant step forward in regional energy cooperation and sustainability.Source: https://business-indonesia.org/news/indonesia-singapore-to-develop-green-industrial-zone-in-riau-islands-use-clean-electricity (ICE GIACARTA)
