Kazakhstan proposes creation of joint cargo terminal with China at Kuryk portPresident of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev believes it is necessary to consider creating a joint cargo terminal with China at the Kuryk port on the Caspian Sea."To enhance the attractiveness of the Trans-Caspian Route, we are taking systematic measures to modernize and digitalize Caspian Sea ports, build cargo terminals, and establish the production of transport vessels. We propose considering the creation of a joint cargo terminal with China at the Kuryk port on the Caspian Sea," Tokayev said at the second "Central Asia-China" summit in Astana on Tuesday.According to him, Kazakhstan attaches great importance to strengthening transcontinental interconnectivity and unlocking the competitive advantages of the Central Asian region."As the first link of the One Belt, One Road mega-project, Kazakhstan advocates for its integration with key transport corridors: Western China - Western Europe, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, and North-South," Tokayev said.He noted that in 2024, the total volume of cargo transported from China through Central Asian countries exceeded 211,000 containers, an increase of 12%. Kazakhstan accounts for 85% of all land freight traffic from China to Europe. (ICE ALMATY)
