Malaysia’s Proton Holdings in talks to launch electric vehicle production in KazakhstanMalaysian automaker Proton Holdings is mulling over production of electric vehicle (EV) in Kazakhstan, the Kazakh government’s press service said in a Thursday statement.According to the press service, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov met with Proton Holdings Berhad CEO Chunrong Li on Thursday to discuss potential cooperation in automotive manufacturing, including the possibility of establishing a new production facility in Kazakhstan.The Kazakh government expressed readiness to provide overall support for the project, noting that collaboration in research and development (R&D) could further strengthen the country’s scientific and technological capabilities."Following the meeting, both sides confirmed their commitment to mutually beneficial cooperation to advance the project. The Ministry of Industry and Construction has been instructed to develop a roadmap," the statement says.Proton Holdings is a leading automotive manufacturer in Malaysia, producing both internal combustion engine vehicles and EVs, which are exported to over 25 countries. The company also operates its own R&D center specializing in vehicle and transmission design and engineering. (ICE ALMATY)
