Prime Minister addresses farmers' water needs amid growing seasonKazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has instructed local authorities and the Agriculture Ministry to promptly address irrigation water supply for farmers during the growing season, the government press service reported.During a meeting on seasonal agricultural needs, Bektenov ordered the creation of regional task forces to manage water-related risks during crop germination. Discussions covered the nationwide situation, with a focus on southern regions, which account for 97% of the country’s water consumption.According to Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, subsidiaries of Kazvodkhoz, the national water management company, have signed 22,500 water supply contracts with farmers, 3,000 more than the same period last year.Bektenov emphasized that meeting agricultural water demands requires heightened attention. He tasked regional officials with coordinating water suppliers and farmers to ensure proper irrigation, adherence to watering schedules, and the reuse of collector-drainage water. (ICE ALMATY)
