POLISH COMPANIES STAND A CHANCE OF GETTING INVOLVED IN NUCLEAR PROJECTS
Work is currently underway in Poland on the implementation of the first nuclear power plant to be built in Choczewo commune. The investor in the project is the state-owned company Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ), and the project itself will be carried out by an American consortium of Westinghouse and Bechtel. With two nuclear projects on the horizon, Polish entrepreneurs have a chance to start operating in this sector. Experts in infrastructural and public procurement contracts note however that this would require from them an openness to new challenges, redefining many concepts and adopting a completely new rules of the game. Typical issues, such as safety, the risk of cost overruns or the risk of meeting deadlines, are treated quite differently in nuclear projects than in typical construction work. (ICE VARSAVIA)
