Supply of raw gas from Urikhtau field to Zhanazhol plant to begin in Q4The Zhanazhol Gas Processing Plant (GPP), owned by CNPC- AktobeMunaiGas, will start receiving raw gas from the Urikhtau field in the 4th quarter of 2026, according to a statement released by National Company KazMunayGas JSC (KMG).The announcement follows a meeting between KMG CEO Askat Khasenov and CNPC Vice President Zhang Daowei."The parties discussed terms and conditions of gas supply from the Urikhtau field to the Zhanazhol Gas Processing Plant, operated by CNPC- AktobeMunaiGas, in the Aktobe region. The supply of raw gas is scheduled to begin in the 4th quarter of 2026, reaching up to 200 million cubic meters per year by 2027, and increasing further to around 1 billion cubic meters annually starting December 2027," the statement says.The partners are also preparing documentation for the development of the Urikhtau field and for the analysis of gas composition. In addition, the operators are seeking most efficient methods for gas processing.In July 2024, KazMunayGas and CNPC signed during the 7th meeting of the Kazakhstan-China Business Council a framework agreement to deepen cooperation in the oil and gas sector, including the processing of hydrocarbons from the Central Urikhtau field at the Zhanazhol Gas Processing Plant.On June 16, 2025, Urikhtau Operating LLP, a 100% subsidiary of KMG and the operator of the Urikhtau field, and CNPC signed a cooperation agreement to advance the Urikhtau project. They agreed that the extracted gas will be processed at the Zhanazhol plant. Preliminary investment in the project is estimated at $138 million.The Central Urikhtau field is expected to produce around 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year.CNPC-AktobeMunaiGas, ultimately owned by China’s CNPC, develops the oil fields Zhanazhol, Kenkiyak oversalt, Kenkiyak subsalt and North Truva in the Aktobe Region, west Kazakhstan. CNPC-AktobeMunaiGas has three gas processing plants.National Company KazMunayGas JSC is the national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons.
