Kazakhstan to receive first Stadler passenger railroad cars by end of 2025Kazakhstan’s national railway operator, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC (KTZ), will take delivery of 51 Stadler-made passenger railroad cars by the end of 2025, KTZ said in a Monday press release.KTZ reiterated its plan to fully replace its passenger railroad cars by 2030, expecting to acquire 557 Stadler cars."The first 51 cars will have arrived by the end of this year," the press release says.Additionally, KTZ will receive this year 107 new passenger railroad cars manufactured at ZIKSTO’s plant in Petropavlovsk. Two electric trains, consisting of 18 domestically produced cars, have already been put into operation linking Astana and the Burabay Resort, Astana and Karaganda."Another train is expected to arrive soon. Also, a contract will also be signed with the domestic manufacturer for the supply of another 350 cars by 2027," the company said.Today, KTZ operates 2,167 passenger railroad cars, including 732 Talgo cars, 1,321 standard cars and 114 locomotives.In December 2022, KTZ partnered with Stadler to produce passenger cars in Kazakhstan using Swiss technology. Stadler plans to upgrade local facilities to assemble 537 passenger cars for KTZ between 2023 and 2030, at a cost of 2.3 billion euros.This agreement was concluded in pursuance of the strategic cooperation agreement between KTZ and Stadler Rail AG, signed in November 2021.ZIKSTO JSC was established in 1994 in Petropavlovsk as part of the Kuibyshev machine-building plant. The company specializes in the production, repair, and maintenance of equipment for the railway, oil and gas, energy, and agro-industrial sectors. In 2023, the company also started producing passenger cars. (ICE ALMATY)
