Eurasian Development Bank maintains Kazakhstan GDP growth forecast at 5.5% for 2025n) – The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) projects Kazakhstan’s economy to grow by 5.5% in 2025, according to an online presentation of the bank’s analytical report. The EDB had previously forecasted a 5.5% economic growth for Kazakhstan for 2025-2027 in its December macroeconomic review."Kazakhstan’s economy will expand by 5.5% this year, accelerating from 4.8% in the previous year. A key driver will be government measures aimed at unlocking investment potential," said Aigul Berdigulova, senior analyst at the EDB’s Country Analysis Center. She noted that the government plans to increase economic funding through the national holding company Baiterek. "This measure will help boost investment potential in manufacturing, transportation, and construction," Berdigulova said.Additionally, expanded oil production at the Tengiz field will provide further momentum, the EDB analyst added. "In 2025, we assume that new capacity will be brought online at the Tengiz field, contributing an additional 0.4-0.6 percentage points to GDP growth. These factors will more than offset the negative effects of expected declines in global oil prices and slower global economic growth," she said.Earlier, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said he expects GDP growth of at least 5.5% in 2025 but described this as "not an overly ambitious result." In this context, he stated that the government is seeking additional sources of economic growth in an interview with Al Jazeera.Several international institutions revised their 2025 growth forecasts downward in April. The World Bank projects 4.5% GDP growth (unchanged from June), while the International Monetary Fund and the Asian Development Bank expect 4.9%. Later in May, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development also lowered its estimate to 4.9%. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s National Bank forecasts economic growth of 4.2-5.2% for 2025-2026.Kazakhstan’s GDP grew by 6% year-on-year in January-April 2025. (ICE ALMATY)
