EBRD reaffirms support for Kazakhstan’s green transition and energy infrastructure projectsKazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Odile Renaud-Basso discussed deepening cooperation in infrastructure and sustainable development during a meeting in Astana on Monday."Tokayev welcomed the EBRD’s intention to invest in joint projects, including those under Kazakhstan’s green transition program. Renaud-Basso praised Kazakhstan’s investment potential and expressed the bank’s interest in further supporting the country’s infrastructure development," the statement reads.The meeting highlighted significant progress in strategic sectors such as small and medium-sized businesses, energy, and agriculture over the years of cooperation.According to the EBRD president, investments in Kazakhstan reached nearly €1 billion last year and tripled in 2024 compared to 2023. Renaud-Basso also reaffirmed the bank’s support for upgrading transport connectivity and modernizing its energy sector.The talks followed the signing of a new agreement between the EBRD and Kazakhstan’s state road operator, KazAvtoZhol, to fund the reconstruction of a 136-kilometer stretch of the Aktobe-Ulgaysyn highway.
