ASEAN SEEKS TO BROADEN TRADE OUTLOOK
ASEAN is strengthening intra-regional trade through its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, aiming to build a unified market and boost competitiveness. Key priorities include reducing non-tariff barriers, streamlining customs procedures, and embracing digital and sustainable trade practices. The bloc is also upgrading the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), with a new protocol expected in November to improve trade flow and attract investment. Intra-ASEAN trade remains low at 21.2% of total trade, compared to 60% in the EU. By improving transparency, supporting small businesses, and enforcing fair competition laws, ASEAN hopes to create a more attractive, innovative, and resilient economic environment.
