KAZAKHSTAN-MORTGAGE-DOWNPAYMENT-THRESHOLD

Kazakhstan plans to set minimum mortgage down payment at 20%The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (ARDFM) and the National Bank plan to introduce a minimum down payment for mortgage loans of 20%, Madina Abylkassymova, the head of the agency, told Interfax-Kazakhstan."We are considering measures with the National Bank to increase the down payment. (...) Currently, there is no such regulatory requirement for market-based mortgages (...)  Globally, a minimum down payment of 20% is usually applied," Abylkassymova told the agency. She explained that raising the down payment threshold would reduce the debt burden because the remaining loan amount would be smaller.According to her, this issue is currently under development, and calculations are being carried out jointly with the National Bank.
