Kazakh environmental campaign removes 190,000 tonnes of waste, plants 2 million treesKazakhstan has collected nearly 190,000 metric tonnes of waste and cleaned approximately 735,000 hectares of land through 573 environmental events this year within the "Taza Kazakhstan" (Clean Kazakhstan) initiative, Ecology Minister Yerlan Nysanbayev reported Wednesday."Taza Kazakhstan, which included national and international campaigns, mobilized 2 million participants, including 156,000 volunteers, and resulted in the planting of over 2 million trees," Nysanbayev told a government meeting.The minister noted that Kazakhstan generates more than 4.5 million tonnes of municipal waste annually, with a recycling rate of just 25.8% in 2024. "To improve waste management, authorities have approved 62 recycling infrastructure projects that would add 1.1 million tonnes of annual processing capacity.Thirteen projects worth 52.7 billion tenge have secured financing, with some already installing equipment. Another 21 projects valued at 74.5 billion tenge are undergoing final review by the Entrepreneurship Development Fund. (ICE ALMATY)
