INDONESIA BEGINS US$6 BILLION CATL-BACKED EV BATTERY PROJECT
Indonesia is set to launch a landmark $6 billion electric vehicle (EV) battery project in East Halmahera, North Maluku, with backing from China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL). Slated for inauguration by President Prabowo Subianto, the integrated facility will cover the entire battery production chain—from nickel mining and smelting to HPAL processing and the manufacture of precursors and cathodes. Touted by Minister Bahlil Lahadalia as a global first in both scope and integration, the project is expected to significantly lower EV battery production costs within Indonesia. This development is part of a broader government push involving 18 downstream industrial initiatives worth nearly US$45 billion, targeting not only EVs but also sectors like nickel, bauxite, oil refining, DME coal gasification, and sustainable industries such as fisheries and forestry.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/361757/indonesia-begins-6-billion-catl-backed-ev-battery-project (ICE GIACARTA)
