KAZAKHSTAN-RES-NONFULFILLMENT/PLAN-PENALTIES
RES in Kazakhstan will face fines for failing to meet electricity generation targetsRenewable energy sources (RES) facilities in Kazakhstan will be subject to financial penalties if they fail to meet their planned electricity generation targets, Vice-Minister of Energy Sungat Yessimkhanov announced during a press conference. He noted that RES facilities should be on equal footing with other types of power generation."Therefore, within the framework of disputes, we are reaching certain consensuses. Whereas we previously had a priority purchase of 100% of the electricity generated by RES, starting this year we are introducing penalty coefficients. This is because an RES facility must declare in advance how much electricity it plans to generate. And, if it fails to fulfill this plan, penalty coefficient will be applied to it. The reason is that we, as consumers, are expecting this electricity," Yessimkhanov stated. In Kazakhstan, the share of electricity generated from renewable energy sources reached 6.43% in 2024.
