INDONESIA TO MAKE E-COMMERCE FIRMS COLLECT TAX ON SELLERS’ SALES, SOURCES SAY

Indonesia is preparing to implement a new regulation requiring e-commerce platforms to withhold and remit a 0.5% income tax on behalf of sellers earning between Rp500 million and Rp4.8 billion annually, aiming to boost state revenue and level the playing field with physical retailers. The policy, expected to be announced as early as July 2025, targets major platforms like Tokopedia, Shopee, and TikTok Shop, amid concerns over declining tax revenues and a booming digital economy projected to reach US$150 billion by 2030. While the move seeks to improve compliance and curb the shadow economy, platforms warn of increased administrative burdens and technical challenges due to recent system upgrades.Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/indonesia-to-make-e-commerce-firms-collect-tax-on-sellers-sales-sources-say (ICE GIACARTA)
