AI EXPECTED TO CONTRIBUTE $260B TO THE GCC ECONOMY

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is projected to contribute $260 billion to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) economies by 2030, driven by national strategies to diversify away from oil and embrace digital transformation. The UAE alone is expected to gain $96 billion, or 13.6% of its GDP, making it a regional AI leader, while Saudi Arabia could see a $135 billion boost. AI is already transforming sectors like energy, banking, healthcare, and retail, with applications in predictive maintenance, fraud detection, and diagnostics. Global players like FancyTech are expanding into the region, choosing Dubai as their MENA hub. Meanwhile, major initiatives—like a 5-gigawatt AI campus in Abu Dhabi and $6.6 billion investment in OpenAI by MGX—underscore the UAE’s global ambitions. However, challenges such as the skills gap and data infrastructure must be addressed to unlock AI’s full potential, including up to $35 billion in added value from generative AI use cases annually across the GCC.
