Kazakhstan aims to complete first nuclear power plant within 7 yearsKazakhstan's planned nuclear power plant will take seven years to build following the start of construction, according to Atomic Energy Agency Chairman Almasadam Satkaliyev."The indicative timeline set by the tender terms is seven years from the start of construction," Satkaliyev told reporters Friday when asked about the project schedule.The announcement follows Kazakhstan's 2024 national referendum approving nuclear power development. Earlier this month, officials confirmed Russia's Rosatom will build the first plant while considering China's CNNC for a second facility.Russia recently signed a roadmap with Kazakhstan for two VVER-1200 reactor units, with the full project expected to take approximately 11 years for completion by 2035-36. Officials are currently negotiating Russian export financing for the first plant.The energy ministry plans to complete a comprehensive construction plan for three planned nuclear facilities by mid-2025.
