The 15th National Assembly of Việt Nam has approved a resolution introducing limited visa exemptions for select foreign nationals who are considered to make special contributions to socio-economic development. This includes high-profile individuals such as tourists, experts, billionaires, scientists, public figures, artists, and elite athletes. The policy will be implemented with strict regard for national security and public order. Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has tasked the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Public Security to identify and propose new eligible groups for unilateral visa exemptions and to expedite negotiations on reciprocal visa waivers. The Ministry of Public Security will also streamline visa-related administrative procedures, enhance the electronic visa (e-visa) system, and consolidate all preferential visa policies. Currently, Việt Nam only waives visas for citizens of 25 countries, lagging behind regional peers like Thailand and Malaysia.
