KazMunayGas launches green hydrogen production in AtyrauNational Company KazMunayGas JSC (KMG) has put into operation the first phase of a green hydrogen project in Atyrau in partnership with local firm Green Spark, KMG said in a Thursday press release.The initial stage involved the installation of 336 photovoltaic modules at a laboratory facility operated by KMG Engineering, a subsidiary of KazMunayGas. The new solar power station has a total capacity of 200 kW.KMG explained that the hydrogen is considered "green" because it is produced using renewable energy, in this case solar power, making the process emissions-free.Special equipment - an electrolyzer - will be installed during the next phase of the project. The solar-generated electricity will power the device, which splits water into oxygen and pure hydrogen through electrolysis.This will establish a fully self-sufficient cycle at the facility - from solar power generation to hydrogen production, which will then be used for heating and partially powering the laboratory building, KMG said.KMG Engineering is a research, design and engineering center of KMG, supporting the company’s operations across key sectors, including exploration, production, transportation and hydrocarbon processing.National Company KazMunayGas JSC is the national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons.
