President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated (groundbreaking) the integrated electric vehicle battery industry ecosystem project by the ANTAM-IBC-CBL Consortium in Karawang, West Java. This project is a major investment worth around 6 billion US dollars (around Rp100 trillion), which is divided in Karawang (1.2 billion US dollars) and North Maluku (4.7 billion US dollars). It is expected that this project will create 8,000 direct jobs and 35,000 indirect jobs, and provide an economic multiplier effect of up to 40 billion US dollars per year. In Karawang, PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia Battery (CATIB) will operate a battery factory on 43 hectares of land, with an initial capacity target of 6.9 GWh and increasing to 15 GWh in the second phase, expected to start commercial operations in late 2026. Meanwhile, in East Halmahera, PT Feni Haltim (PT FHT) will develop a new energy industrial area, including nickel mining, pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical smelters, cathode material factories, and battery recycling facilities.
