AGREEMENT SIGNED WITH FRENCH COMPANY TO REHABILITATE 37 BRIDGES IN SYRIA
The General Establishment for Road Transport held a working meeting, on Sunday, with the French company “Matière” to activate the MoU signed between the two sides and translate it into practical steps to serve the rehabilitation of damaged bridges in Syria. During the meeting, the Establishment’s priorities for maintaining damaged bridges, particularly in liberated areas, were discussed. This is in line with available financial resources and contributes to achieving balanced development. Approval was also given to adding five new bridges to the list of ones agreed upon for rehabilitation, pursuant to the cooperation agreement concluded between the General Establishment for Road Transport and the company in 2023. This agreement aims to rebuild and repair 32 bridges across Syria. The two sides discussed priorities, especially after liberation, bringing the total number of bridges to 37. The Acting Director of the Establishment, Engineer Khader Fatoum, stressed that this cooperation contributes to achieving a safe and sustainable transportation sector, thus supporting reconstruction efforts and the building of a modern Syria. For his part, Philippe Matière, head of French company “Matière”, expressed the company’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the Memorandum of Understanding and commencing maintenance work on the strategic bridges as soon as possible, thus strengthening the positive relationship between the two sides. This Syrian-French cooperation comes as part of efforts to rebuild vital infrastructure in Syria following years of damage to bridges and roads caused by former regime. (ICE BEIRUT)
