KAZAKHSTAN-RUSSIA-BORDER-CONGESTION

Traffic jams build up at Kazakhstan-Russia border due to Russia’s new entry rulesRussia’s new entry requirements have led to significant congestion of trucks and passenger buses at a number of checkpoints on the Kazakh-Russian border, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reported."At the checkpoints Zhaysan in the Aktobe region, Zhana Zhol in the North Kazakhstan region and Bokei Khan in the Atyrau Region, dozens of heavy trucks and buses are waiting in line to enter Russia. Police are maintaining public order, managing traffic flow, and assisting drivers," the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. The ministry said that traffic jams on the border have been since June 30."One of the reasons for the congestion is Russia’s new entry requirements. The Interior Ministry urges all drivers to remain calm, maintain order and follow police instructions," the statement says.On June 30, Russia introduced the second phase of pilot entry rules requiring foreign nationals to submit an electronic entry application at least three days before their planned arrival. The Russian Embassy in Kazakhstan said on June 24 that the new registration procedure for foreign citizens entering Russia is a trial measure and does not alter the visa-free regime between Russia and Kazakhstan. The embassy stressed that the participation in the pilot entry rules, which involves using the ruID app, is voluntary. (ICE ALMATY)
