SK GROUP CONSIDERS $2.1B LNG POWER INVESTMENT IN NGHE AN
South Korea’s SK Group is evaluating a landmark $2.1 billion investment in the Quynh Lap LNG Power Plant in Vietnam’s Nghe An province. The proposed facility, with a capacity of 1,500MW, aligns with Vietnam’s National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8) and aims to enhance grid reliability while supporting clean energy goals. SK’s delegation met with provincial leaders to discuss the project’s feasibility, timelines, and potential shared infrastructure with a similar initiative in Thanh Hoa province. The plant will include LNG import terminals and regasification systems, targeting operation by 2030. This move reflects SK’s strategic shift toward green energy in Vietnam, where it has already invested $3.5 billion. The company is also exploring broader energy solutions, including clean fuel infrastructure and digital energy systems. Vietnam’s transition to LNG, driven by the need to reduce coal dependency and meet rising electricity demand, is attracting foreign capital amid ongoing regulatory and infrastructure improvements.
