KUWAITI CONTRACTOR AWARDED OIL CONTRACT

Kuwait-based Mechanical Engineering & Contracting Company (MECC) has been awarded a contract to install injection pumps at the country’s central injection pumping facility (CIPF) by the state-owned upstream operator Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).The company submitted a price of $70m for the project earlier this year.The scope includes:Construction of an injection plantInstallation of injection pumpsInstallation of instrument control systemInstallation of chemical injection pumpsInstallation of cylindrical rotor centrifugesInstallation of deep well water pumpsConstruction of a storage tankInstallation of safety and security systemsAssociated facilitiesThe full list of bidders was:MECC – $70mHeavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Company (Heisco) – $73mAlghanim International General Trading & Contracting Company – $76mKuwait is currently in the midst of a drive to increase upstream oil and gas production.In January 2024, Khaled Al-Sabah, the chief executive of the national oil company Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), unveiled a $30bn investment plan to boost the country’s oil production capacity by 40%.The target is to increase output from 2.8 million barrels a day (b/d) to 4 million b/d by 2040.
