JORDAN’S EXPORTS TO US REACH JOD2.2 BILLION IN 2024
On Tuesday, the Economic and Social Council launched an analytical study titled “The Impact of Imposing Customs Tariffs on Jordanian Exports: The United States as a Model.” The study explores the potential economic effects of the US administration’s decision to impose a 20% tariff on imports of Jordanian products, which could directly affect the competitiveness of national exports and investment within the Kingdom. It specifically assesses the broader impact this decision could have on the Jordanian economy, with a particular focus on foreign trade, should the tariff be implemented. The study is divided into two parts: the first analyzes Jordan’s foreign trade with various countries worldwide, including the United States; the second offers a detailed examination of Jordanian-American trade relations, evaluates the potential consequences of the tariff decision, and proposes a series of supporting recommendations. Musa Al-Shteiwi, President of the Economic and Social Council, emphasized that the study centers on the trade relationship between Jordan and the United States—one of the Kingdom’s most significant trading partners. In 2024, exports to the US market reached approximately 2.2 billion Jordanian dinars, accounting for about 25.7% of the Kingdom’s total exports. These exports are predominantly concentrated in the clothing, textiles, and jewelry sectors, which represent more than 85% of the total. (ICE AMMAN)
