There are nearly 30 commercial banks in Poland. Although the sector achieved record profits in 2024 thanks to high interest rates, only a small part of it can boast high profitability. The list of the 10 largest banks includes PKO Bank Polski, Bank Pekao, Santander Bank Polska, BGK, Alior Bank. BNP Paribas Bank Polska, mBank, Bank Handlowy and Bank Millennium. These institutions, with the largest scale of operations, have an average return on capital of several percent, but the next two tenths are around zero. The Top10 made a profit equivalent to total earnings of the entire commercial sector (a year ago, the top seven had a similar result). Dividend payments are also concentrated in the largest banks.
