Damage caused by online scams in Kazakhstan exceeded $48 mln in H1More than 11,000 online fraud instances were reported in Kazakhstan in January-June 2025, resulting in over 25 billion tenge worth of damage, according to Zhandos Suyunbay, head of the cybercrime department at the Internal Affairs Ministry."In the first six months of this year, as many as 11,600 online fraud cases were registered, 3,600 of which involved prepayment scams. Total damage caused is estimated at over 25 billion tenge," Suyunbay said at a Wednesday briefing.Of all the amount of damage, only 895 million tenge was recovered, he added.In a nationwide crackdown on cybercrime, police have seized to date 74 SIM boxes and 88,000 unregistered SIM cards. Thirty suspects, including 14 foreign nationals, have been detained in connection with these operations. (ICE ALMATY)
