KAZAKHSTAN-NATIONAL/DEBT

Kazakhstan’s national debt reaches 31.9 trillion tenge or 21.1% of GDP - Finance MinistryNational debt of Kazakhstan came in at 31.9 trillion tenge as of July 1, Finance Minister Madi Takiyev said."As of July 1, the national debt stood at 31.9 trillion tenge or 21.1% of GDP, reflecting a 40-billion-tenge increase since the start of the year," Takiyev said at a Tuesday meeting of the government.According to the minister, the national debt remains within the established limit, with the key growth factors being the financing of the government budget deficit and the utilization of previously raised loans."Due to strong GDP growth, the national debt-to-GDP ratio continues to decline - from 29.2% in 2020 to 23.5% in 2024," Takiyev said. The existing level of national debt remains within the ceiling of 32% of GDP, as outlined in the republic’s public finance management strategy until 2030, the minister said."Furthermore, the Finance Ministry's $2.5 billion Eurobond placement on June 24 enabled full refinancing of upcoming 2015 external debt payments without increasing total debt. This has established a yield benchmark for future foreign borrowings by quasi-sovereign sector entities," he said. (ICE ALMATY)
