PIF PLANS MAJOR SOLAR EXPANSION
Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) is set to expand five existing utility-scale solar plants with 9GW of new capacity across second and third phases. This follows recent power purchase agreements for seven other PIF solar and wind projects. The new solar photovoltaic (PV) projects include: Al-Sadawi 2 (3GW), Khushaybi 2 (0.5GW), Muwayh 2 (2GW), Henakiyah 3 (1.5GW), and Haden 2 (2GW). These will operate under 25-year build-own-operate contracts with the Saudi Power Procurement Company. The PIF's renewables program runs parallel to the National Renewable Energy Program. While it's unconfirmed, existing phase developers may be logical choices for these extensions given proximity.
