Kazakhstan to begin construction of 4 water reservoirs in Q3 2025Kazakhstan has completed the development of design and estimate documentation for the construction of four new reservoirs in the south and west of the country, with construction set to begin in the third quarter of this year, the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation informed Interfax-Kazakhstan."To date, the design and estimate documentation for all four facilities has been completed. Construction and installation work is planned to begin in Q3 2025, with completion scheduled for 2027," the press service stated in response to the agency's inquiry.The projects are being financed through loans from the Islamic Development Bank, with a total cost of approximately 47.9 billion tenge.In Kyzylorda region construction of a 775 million cubic meter reservoir on the Karaozyak channel is planned for water accumulation and regional water supply.In West Kazakhstan region construction of a 28 million cubic meter reservoir on the Bolshoy Uzen River near the village of Zhalpaktal is scheduled to begin.In Zhambyl Region two reservoirs will be built: Akmola, 15 million cubic meters on the Talas River and Kalguty, 15 million cubic meters on the Kalguty River.Earlier, in early March this year, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov announced that Kazakhstan planned to begin construction of four new reservoirs in three regions of the country in 2025. Overall, by 2030, Kazakhstan aims to build 42 reservoirs, reconstruct 37 hydraulic structures, and renovate 14,000 km of irrigation canals. (ICE ALMATY)
