VIETNAM EYES VND22-TRILLION EXPY LINKING NORTHWEST MOUNTAINOUS PROVINCES

HCMC – The Ministry of Construction is reviewing a VND22-trillion proposal to build the Hoa Binh–Moc Chau expressway under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Spanning nearly 90 km, the expressway will link Hoa Binh and Son La provinces in Vietnam’s northwest mountainous region, aiming to improve regional connectivity, support socio-economic growth, and boost tourism. Designed as a four-lane class-A expressway with a target speed of 80 km/h, the first phase will be scaled down to two lanes with a 60 km/h speed limit due to difficult terrain and funding limits. The initial stage is estimated to cost VND11.4 trillion, with around VND8.5 trillion sourced from state funds. Construction will involve complex engineering, including two tunnels (totaling 1.5 km) and dozens of bridges, notably a 500-meter bridge over the Da River. If approved, the project will be executed in phases between 2025 and 2030, forming a key link to the North–South Expressway. — VNS (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
