INDONESIA'S PHE AIMS FOR 12 CCS/CCUS PROJECTS WITH FIRST CARBON INJECTION - 2030

Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), Pertamina’s upstream arm, plans to launch 12 Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects, targeting initial carbon injection by 2030. These projects aim for a substantial 7.3 gigatons of CO₂ storage capacity. Edy Karyanto, PHE’s Director of Strategic Planning, Portfolio, and Commercial, highlighted that this initiative is vital for Indonesia's net zero emission goal by 2060 and presents a significant business opportunity. PHE will manage the entire CCS/CCUS value chain and is already eyeing international clients from Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, developing cross-border business models for carbon imports. PHE will also conduct a pilot CCS project with ExxonMobil at the Asri Besar Field. While 7% of storage is for domestic use, up to 30% is reserved for international clients, signaling Indonesia's ambition to become a regional CCS hub. Edy stressed the need for government support, including fiscal incentives and streamlined regulations. Dadan Kusdiana, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), affirmed CCS/CCUS as a foundational element of Indonesia's energy transition. He noted Indonesia's regulatory progress but cited commercialization and stakeholder collaboration as current hurdles. Dadan also revealed a strategic partnership with Singapore for cross-border CCS implementation, viewing it as a crucial economic opportunity to solidify Indonesia as the region's CCS center.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/4810/corporate-affairs/phe-to-develop-12-ccs-ccus-projects-first-injection-targeted-for-2030 (ICE GIACARTA)
