Tanzania has officially opened the Kwala Inland Dry Port, banking on the new facility reduce cargo congestion at the main seaport in Dar es Salaam and streamline transportation along the Central Corridor. President Samia Suluhu inaugurated the new facility in the Coast Region on Thursday. Located about 95 kilometers from Dar es Salaam Port, Kwala is designed to handle transit cargo for neighboring countries, aiming to cut transportation times and alleviate traffic jams caused by cargo trucks in Dar es Salaam. According to Presi- dent Samia, the new port is expected to decrease the number of trucks heading to neighboring countries by 30 per cent. The dry port is a key part of Tanzania's plan to become a regional logistics hub. (ICE NAIROBI)
