INDONESIA PLANS TO IMPORT LITHIUM FROM AUSTRALIA FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERIES
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that Indonesia plans to import lithium from Australia. The import of lithium is aimed at developing the electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem in the country, Indonesia has three of four raw materials for making EV batteries including nickel, cobalt, and manganese. Bahlil explained that the reason for choosing Australia is because it is more economical in terms of transportation costs. He stated that Indonesia has been importing lithium from African countries, but it would be more economical to import from Australia due to its proximity. He further stated that the Indonesian EV market will be quite large in the future. This is because the government will continue to push for net zero emissions by 2050-2060, in line with the targeted goal.Source: https://en.tempo.co/read/2036522/indonesia-plans-to-import-lithium-from-australia-for-electric-vehicle-batteries (ICE GIACARTA)
