DELIVERY OF INDONESIAN FRIGATES UNAFFECTED BY FINCANTIERI LEADERSHIP TRANSITION
Indonesia is set to receive two advanced Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA) frigates from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, following a contract signed in March 2024. The first vessel, KRI Brawijaya-320, departed Italy on July 29, 2025 and is expected to arrive at the Navy’s Second Fleet Command base in Surabaya on September 10, 2025. It will operate primarily under the Second Fleet with extended reach into the Third Fleet Command, including Papua waters. The second frigate, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, is scheduled for delivery in January 2026 and will be deployed under the First Fleet Command to secure western maritime zones, including the South China Sea. Despite leadership changes at Fincantieri’s military ship division, the delivery timeline remains unaffected. Defense analyst Alman Helvas Ali confirmed that Eugenio Santagata’s appointment as head of the division will not disrupt the schedule. The Thaon di Revel-class frigates are 143 meters long, displace 6,250 tons, and are capable of speeds over 30 knots with a range of 5,000 nautical miles. Designed for multi-role missions and four-dimensional warfare, they are equipped with cutting-edge weapons and systems, significantly enhancing Indonesia’s naval capabilities.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/4965/defense-and-security/indonesian-frigates-delivery-unaffected-by-fincantieri-leadership-change (ICE GIACARTA)
