PowerCo Canada has launched its first job recruitment campaign for what will be the country’s largest-ever electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing plant, located in St. Thomas, Ont.The start of recruitment sees the company attempting to full hundreds of jobs, with the eventual creation of thousands of positions when the plant is fully operational.PowerCo has invested $7 billion in the creation of the gigafactory and will break ground on the project in the coming weeks with initial production anticipated in 2027, followed by a demand-based ramp up.“This recruitment campaign is a pivotal step forward as we move closer to breaking ground on what will be Canada’s largest EV facility once completed,” said Norman Wickboldt, chief human resources officer at PowerCo Canada, in a media release. “Electrified transportation is the future, and these jobs offer long-term opportunities for Canadians to be a part of an exciting and innovative clean energy industry.”Founded in 2022, PowerCo Canada is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group.
