TANZANIA LAUNCHES FIVE SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONES TO ATTRACT INDUSTRIAL INVESTMENT
On 12 August 2025, the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) launched five new Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Dar es Salaam to boost large-scale industrial investment. The strategic areas include the Nala SEZ (607 hectares), Kwala SEZ (40.5 hectares), Buzwagi SEZ (1,333 hectares), Bagamoyo Eco Maritime City – Phase One (151 hectares), and the Benjamin William Mkapa SEZ Expansion (13,000 square meters). Targeted incentives and strategic land allocations have been introduced to attract priority sector investments in textiles, pharmaceuticals, automotive assembly, agro-processing, electronics, and green energy solutions.Officiating the launch, Minister of Planning and Investment Prof. Kitila Mkumbo emphasized that recent investment reforms aim to cut bureaucratic hurdles and ensure equal facilitation for both local and foreign investors. He stressed the importance of not only attracting investments but also enabling them to operate profitably, aligning projects with national economic goals. The SEZ initiative supports Vision 2050 by expanding private sector participation in SEZ ownership and management, creating jobs, boosting exports, and increasing government revenue through both tax and non-tax incentives.
